The Peoples' Liberation Army (PLA) Z-19, WZ-19 export designation, is a light attack and reconnaissance helicopter derived from the Harbin Z-9W tactical transport helicopter. The aircraft was developed by Harbin Aviation Industry with the maiden flight performed in 2011 and its entry into service one year later. The Z-19 helicopter features a tandem two-seat cockpit and can be fitted with pod-mounted 23mm guns, rocket launchers, HJ-8 anti-tank missiles and TY-90 air-to-air missiles. Besides, the Z-19 helicopter features a pod with FLIR, TV and laser designator/range finder mounted under the aircraft's nose. The aircraft is powered by two WZ-8C turboshafts developing 940-hp of power at takeoff. The Z-19 light attack and reconnaissance helicopter is intended to complement the heavier and more sophisticated Z-10 attack helicopter within the Chinese military.
